Robert Pitcairn Jr. House

Robert Pitcairn Jr. House

"Having studied and published on the work of Greene and Greene for more than 25 years, for me, the Pitcairn House conservation project… stands out as a model of sensitive and thoughtful preservation... the most important precursor to the Greene’s classic work… a historic resource of tremendous value… the Pitcairn House is the very first of the Greene’s commissions to implement the complete architectural vocabulary of their mature style… there are few houses of equal significance." -Edward R. Bosley

The 1906 Robert Pitcairn house as a structure is fully expressed in wood, with balconies and terraces integrated into the plan for house and garden, and the meticulous craftsmanship for which the Greenes are justly famous. Following an assessment of existing conditions, the project team proposed treatments designed to address deterioration while preserving historic materials, and developed a comprehensive exterior restoration and maintenance plan.
